Upmarket Contemporary Fantasy from Author A.C. Fisher Aldag

January 8, 2025City Owl Press is excited to announce the signing of A.C. Fisher Aldag for a upmarket contemporary Fantasy, Woman Afraid of Water.

“To be perfectly honest, I think it is one of the best books I’ve come across in a while. Readers are going to love it,” said Acquisitions Editor Danielle DeVor.

Woman Afraid of Water is the first in a series of upmarket contemporary fantasy and magical realism stories called The AmeriCelts. The stories contain elements of romantasy, fabulism, Celtic folklore, and romantic comedy. They are driven by strong women characters who collaborate, using pragmatism and enchantment in opposition to both mundane and mystical antagonists.

Woman Afraid of Water is set in the farmlands and small towns of present-day rural Indiana. It's the last place on earth anyone would expect to find sword fights and sorcery.

Told alongside legendary Cymric (Welsh, Celtic) fairy tales, with folk-heroes and folk magic, Woman Afraid of Water is the compelling story of two strong women's friendship, a love that crosses cultural boundaries, a conflict between modern American society and the ancient Celtic folkways, and the blurred lines between magic and consensus reality.
