Gilded Wing Book Cruise and City Owl Writers' Retreats retreats invite readers and writers to connect, recharge, and experience stories beyond the page.
October 5, 2026 — City Owl Press, an independent publisher of romance and speculative fiction, announces three literary getaways for February 2027: the Gilded Wing Book Cruise, sailing February 22–26 from Los Angeles, and two City Owl Writers’ Retreats in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Feb. 21 - 24, and Feb. 24 - 27 (Previously scheduled for November, both retreats have moved to February).
Together, the events offer readers and writers opportunities to build community around books, spend time with authors, and find fresh inspiration in settings designed for discovery and connection.
Gilded Wing Book Cruise: February 22–26, 2027
The Gilded Wing Book Cruise brings readers and authors together for a four-night
literaryadventure departing from Los Angeles, with stops at Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.
Planned programming includes author panels and Q&As, meet-and-greets, themed literary events, games, giveaways, and special story reveals. Attendees can enjoy exclusive Gilded Wing swag and community activities alongside time to explore the destinations and relax at sea.
The cruise extends the vision behind Gilded Wing, City Owl Press’s experiential imprint: creating opportunities for readers to connect with stories and the people who bring them to life.
City Owl Writers’ Retreats: February 21 - 24, and February 24 - 27, 2027
Held in a private coastal home one block from the beach in Hilton Head Island, the City Owl Writers’ Retreats offer small-group experiences for writers seeking dedicated creative time, practical guidance, and a supportive community.

Each retreat has a distinct focus:
-
The Working Writer — February 21 - 24: Designed for writers ready to make progress on a manuscript, this retreat combines dedicated drafting and revision time with craft discussions, one-on-one feedback, and evening readings.
-
The Curious Writer — February 24 - 27: Centered on discovery and creative renewal, this retreat uses observation, journaling, character exercises, and conversations about the writing life to help participants explore ideas and deepen their storytelling.
Hosted by editor Tee Tate, the retreats include lodging, light breakfasts, one shared dinner, snacks, craft sessions, one-on-one feedback, and a retreat kit. Attendance is limited to preserve an intimate setting and allow meaningful interaction among participants.
Whether guests are working toward a finished draft, rediscovering their creative spark, or looking to share their love of books with fellow readers, City Owl Press’s February events offer space to step away from everyday demands and reconnect with storytelling.
